Nancy Lane, MD, discussed her team's study on abaloparatide, a new preparation of a hormone, and how it can stimulate bone formation. Prior studies had shown, Lane said, that 18 months of treatment in pot menopausal women showed significant increase in spine and hip bone density, and reduced both vertebral and non-vertebral fractures. At ACR/ARHP, Lane continued to explain the significance the severity of osteoporosis had on the study. She is optimistic that once the drug gets official clearance, she and her team would know which patient population to use it for.
