Anticoagulants have been used for many years in the medical community, and now with the development of new agents patients can see better results without the risk of as many adverse events.

Working at Columbia University Medical Center, Kathleen T. Hickey, RN, EdD, FNP-BC, ANP-BC, APNG,has seen first hand how these agents work and how they can help patients avoid potentially serious if not fatal developments. Hickey said adherence to medication and the ability to communicate with their medical providers can be two big steps patients can take to help ensure their overall health and well being.
