As the population gets olderm there is more work being done to determine the cause of dementia and Alzheimer's disease and find treatments as well. A new protein could be a solid step in that direction.
Bryan D. James, PhD, from Rush University Medical Center is part of a team researching the protein, known as TDP43. As with other areas of research involving these conditions, James said the only way to currently identify them in patients is during an autopsy. While he said the research is not yet ready to be part of the clinical process, in the future it could prove to be a valuable resource for providers to help patients.
