Patients with hepatitis C may not be diagnosed with the condition until their liver damage has progressed to the point of needing a transplant. They may also be suffering from renal failure which requires a different look at treatment options in order to improve overall health.

Treating patients with genotypes 1 and 2 of hepatitis C has gotten increasingly easier over the years. That is not the case for patients with comorbidities like cirrhosis, HIV, and renal failure among others.

For many patients with hepatitis C they may not even learn they have the disease until sustained a significant amount of damage to their liver. Treating these patients and those who are already immunosuppressed requires special care in treatment.
