In the United States genotypes 1 and 2 may be the most common forms of the disease but there are many others, each with their own treatment options and availabilities to patients.
In the United States the two most common forms of hepatitis C are genotypes 1 and 2. They are also becoming increasingly easy to treat though the medications can be expensive for some patients.
While not as common in the United States as genotype 1 hepatitis C there are still viable options for patients with genotype 2. Genotype 3 is commonly seen in places like Egypt but as people come to the United States from around the world there are pockets of the condition around the country as well.
Hepatitis C genotypes 4, 5, and 6 are so rare in the United States and other parts of the world that finding enough patients to test potential therapies can be very difficult. In spite of that there are some things doctors can try to help their patients.
