At The North American Menopause Society 27th Annual Meeting (NAMS), Hadine Joffe, MD, MSc, Brigham and Women's Hospital explained that she always has her patients use sleep hygiene, and that there are some really key strategies that has no side effects. She encourages her patients not to look at the clock in the middle of the night to avoid that extra layer of tension and frustration. Joffe also suggests that if they do wake in the middle of the night and can't go back easily to sleep, to get out of bed in order to break the association of frustration and not being able to go back to sleep. She did point out the negative impact low-light emitted from smart phones and devices had on people to fall back asleep.
