The treatment of diabetic retinopathy, particularly diabetic macular edema has come a long way over the past decade, especially since the approval of aflibercept to treat these patients.

Charles C. Wykoff, MD, PhD, from Retina Consultants Houstan, discussed this topic during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Chicago. Wykoff said because of the damage diabetes can do to a patient's eyes treating it correctly can make a considerable difference in the life of a patient.
