Unlike other medical conditions thyroid cancer can be difficult to diagnose. Often the condition is discovered while looking at other health issues a patient may have.

While many people associate endocrinologists with the treatment of conditions like diabetes, Alison Semrad, DO, from UC Davis Health System said this was the condition which drew her attention during her fellowship. Since that time she said she has seen the diagnosis of thyroid cancer and other thyroid conditions become more common, allowing treatment to start sooner and more effectively than they had in the past.
