When it comes to the treatment of thyroid cancer the preferred term of "persistent disease" is often considered more than cure.

While a minority of patients will achieve a cure of the condition Alison Semrad, DO, from UC Davis Health System said not having persistent diease can be just as meaningful for patients as cure. One of the biggest differences, she said, is that there is awareness that the condition needs to still be monitored into the future to ensure the cancer does not return after the initial treatment.
