Our latest emergency department minute quiz from Brady Pregerson, MD, features a patient in his 20s with a history of pancreatitis presenting with epigastric and chest pain.
History:
A man in his late 20’s with a history of pancreatitis from alcohol presents to the ED for epigastric and chest pain that started about 6 hours prior. He denies syncope, palpitations, SOB, fever, nausea, vomiting or other complaints but does admit to recent alcohol abuse. He said when he had pancreatitis previously the pain did not go into his chest.
Exam:
Vital signs are normal except a BP of 161/96
Exam is notable for clear lungs, normal heart sounds, and a tender abdomen.
Testing:
An EKG is done
