This year’s conference will feature “more than 35 lectures covering disease states, emerging research, public health, and policy issues.” The “Current Clinical Issues in Primary Care” program at Pri-Med Southwest 2011, presented by faculty of Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine, will provide attendees the opportunity to earn up to 12 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).

Keynote Speakers at Pri-Med Southwest 2011

Thursday, March 24

John D. Goodson, MD, FACP, Deputy Director of the Harvard Medical School Course Development Committee, will present “The Promise of Primary Care.” Goodson will “briefly summarize the current challenges facing primary care practice and then discuss the many current opportunities to rebuild the primary care workforce.” He will also present “examples of how primary care has been maintained and restored” and make the case that “we need to marshal the support of every primary care provider and all engage in a national effort to expand primary care.”

Friday, March 25

Paul Klotman, MD, president and CEO of Baylor College of Medicine, will present “Improving Value in Healthcare: A Partnership between an Academic Medical Center and Primary Care Physicians.” Klotman will explore the ways in which the passage of health care reform in 2010 will “require academic health centers and community physicians to develop creative approaches in caring for patients that assure a high standard of quality” and discuss potential relationships between community-based primary care physicians and academic health centers that can improve the value of health care to the population while implementing health care reform.

Saturday, March 26

Bill H. Frist, MD, former Senate Majority Leader, will present “Medicine as a Currency for Peace: The Passion to Bring Health, Hope, and Healing.” Frist will “share his unique experience as a heart transplant surgeon and US senator inspiring people to make a difference wherever they are by helping others, risking failure, challenging the status quo, and above all, having a heart to serve.”
