As it is becoming clearer how dangerous opioids can be for some patients work is being done to find alternatives to help manage pain without as much fear of addiction.

David Copenhaver, MD, from UC Davis Health System discussed some of the latest developments in the field during a recent interview with MD Magazine. Copenhaver said a lot has changed in the field in recent years which he believes can go a long way in providing better care for patients including best practices for prescribing opioids.
