David Rosenthal: Reaction to Orlando Shooting Shows Importance of Communication with Patients

In June of 2016 when nearly 50 people were killed in a shooting at an Orlando night club it brought the LGBT community to the forefront of the headlines. Even for people not at the club it raised concerns that they shared as an indirect affect of the tragic events.

In June of 2016, when nearly 50 people were killed in a shooting at an Orlando night club, it brought the LGBT community to the forefront of the headlines. Even for people not at the club, it raised concerns that they shared as an indirect effect of the tragic events.

While Northwell Health, located on Long Island, is far from the scene of the shooting, David Rosenthal, DO, PhD, said the events of that night reverberated up the East Coast and had a profound impact on many of his patients. Having worked with this patient group for a long time, Rosenthal also said he was encouraged to see there is more of a comfort level on their part when it comes to talking to their doctors about various issues, but also pointed out there is a lot of work still to be done in this area.
