Diabetes Dialogue: The Role of Nutrition in Diabetes Management, with Dawn Noe, RDN, LD

In this episode, Isaacs and Bellini sit down with Dawn Noe, RDN, LD, for a discussion surrounding her journey into diabetes care, the importance of individualizing nutrition in diabetes management, and the sessions she led and moderated at ADCES 2023.

In recent years the world of diabetes management has been captivated by advances in pharmacotherapies and diabetes technology. As novel incretin-based therapies and SGLT2 inhibitors transform the outlook of metabolic illness for millions, the advancement seen in diabetes technologies, namely insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors, has matched the rate of advancement stride for stride.

Still, even with this marked advancement, the field has seen a renewed emphasis on the role of lifestyle management in diabetes. Among those leading this charge is Dawn Noe, RN, LD, a registered dietitian and owner of Dawn Noe Nutrition and Consulting. A certified diabetes care and education specialist, Noe’s entry into the field is a familiar tale among providers specializing in diabetes, with her interest spurred by a loved one’s diagnosis.

In the case of Noe, it was her mother who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes more than 20 years ago. In the time since, Noe has allowed this passion and her commitment to care to lead her on a journey that includes not only nutrition coaching and consulting, but also venturing into entrepreneurship. Noe showcased her expertise at the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) 2023 annual meeting by leading or moderating in multiple sessions during the meeting, which was held from August 4-7, 2023 in Houston, TX.

Noe served as primary presenter for the following sessions:

  • Eat Your Way Through CGM Reports
  • Deliver Care as a Diabetes Entrepreneur: Emerging Practice Models

In addition to her role as primary presenter, Noe also served as moderator for the following sessions:

  • How the Broken American Sign Language Interpreter System Impacts Diabetes Education
  • Improved Self-Efficacy of Diabetes Care and High Satisfaction After Implementation of the eCare School Health for Diabetes Program
