Endo News Roundup: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease

Studies include drug-free remission of T2DM, and the impact of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia on cardiovascular health.

Three new studies on T2DM highlight a combination of intensive lifestyle change and drug therapy and the risks of both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. T2DM patients who maintain a short course of intensive lifestyle and drug therapy that reduces weight and controls blood glucose may be able to enjoy several months of drug-free remission; a large population study that followed T2DM patients from diagnosis shows hyperglycemia remains as an essential risk factor for heart failure, as has been demonstrated in earlier studies; and on the other side of the coin, hypoglycemia risk is an indicator for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death in older adults with T2DM.
