On a daily basis endocrinologists are treating a wide variety of conditions that require their own specifics of care. Because of that there is an increased need for not only more specialists in the field, but also for general practitioners to provide care for more controlled patients.

As the diabetes epidemic continues to grow, Antonio C. Bianco, MD, PhD, from Rush University Medical Center, said "everyday" hypothyroidism and diabetes can be properly treated by internal medicine doctors. He said he believes this is a trend that is continuing to grow in the medical community which can help patients get the care they need from the proper provider.
