Obese patients present several challenges when it comes to gastric bypass, organ transplantation, and other surgeries. Several recent advances have reduced the risk of complications in this population.

Andrew Posselt, MD, PhD, FACS, discussed this issue during Kidney Week 2014 in Philadelphia. Posselt said he performs these types of surgery and said as obese patients make changes in their lives it can provide great benefits to their overall health.
