The New York University clinical professor of medicine also shared his thoughts on the future of cardiovascular disease medicine.

Howard Weintraub, MD, has found there's particular words that get through to patients struggling with obesity.

"When you say the word diabetes, everybody knows somebody who has been amputated, who's had a stroke or an MI, or even multiple ones and have become invalid," Weintraub, a clinical professor at New York University, said.

The anecdotal fear that a patient associates with such potential diseases is also why Weintraub doesn't hesistate from diagnosing pre-diabetes in his patients, either.

In an interview with MD Magazine, Weintraub sat down to explain this train of thinking, as well as what he thinks the future of cardiovascular disease treatment will look like.
