Joslin Diabetes Center Partners with Southeast Texas Medical Association

SETMA, which operates multiple special clinics, will be the 38th national Affiliate Program of the Joslin Diabetes Center.

Joslin Diabetes Center, the world’s preeminent diabetes research and clinical care organization, has announced an affiliation with Southeast Texas Medical Associates, LLP, in Beaumont, Texas. The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at SETMA will offer some of the latest advances for treating diabetes and its complications as well as patient education and support services.

“Since first making a presentation of SETMA’s diabetes disease management tool to Joslin in 2003 and after a 2008 visit to SETMA by Joslin staff, SETMA has worked toward excellence in the care of diabetes,” said James L. Holly, MD, SETMA chief executive officer. “With the formalization of this affiliation, SETMA providers renew their commitment to offer the highest quality care for patients with diabetes. SETMA is proud of this affiliation and welcomes all to the November 30 inauguration event at 10:30 a.m.”

SETMA is a multi-specialty clinic that has three clinical locations. SETMA operates a clinical laboratory, mobile x-ray services, physical therapy department, as well as a number of specialty clinics. SETMA's growing provider base includes pediatrics, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, infectious disease, internal medicine, nurse practitioners and Family Practice.

Joslin’s Affiliated Programs office was established in 1987 to make Joslin’s programs, services, and expertise available to premier health care providers across the United States. SETMA will be one of only 38 national and two international Affiliate locations.

Joslin provides clinical, educational, operational and marketing support to its Affiliates to help assure that high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective diabetes care is available to each partner’s community—ensuring that these organizations and the patients they serve are in touch with some of the latest clinical trends and research breakthroughs.

“Over 10% of adults in Texas have diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the population at risk is on the rise,” said Judy Eyres Goodwin, Vice President and Managing Director of Joslin’s Strategic Initiatives division. “We look forward to working with the professionals at SETMA to bring Joslin’s integrated care to people with diabetes and related conditions in the region.”
