From the ventricular assist device and beyond the treatment of heart failure has made a considerable number of advancements. Even small steps like longer battery life and smaller devices can make a big difference in a patient's daily life going

The ventricular assist device has served as not only a bridge to a heart transplant, but also as a primary treatment method for heart failure patients. Kathleen Tong, MD, from UC Davis Health System said that this and other developments have proven that the future is bright for more developments in this field. One potential, she said is biologic and gene therapies which could move this field forward, though Tong said that is many years down the road.
