Kenneth Kendler from Virginia Commonwealth University: Studying the Link Between Marriage and Alcohol Use Disorder

What can a successful partnership at home mean for preventing alcohol use disorder? According to one study that balance can mean the added ability to prevent a condition which can otherwise have a dramatic affect on their lives.

Kenneth Kendler, MD, from Virginia Commonwealth University discussed this research which looked at couples in Sweden during the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting in Vancouver. Kendler said other research has shown that many people with this condition are single and said marriage can prove to be "substantially protective," for the people involved who might otherwise be at risk.
