Managing Psoriatic Arthritis in Plaque Psoriasis Patients

Nearly one-third of patients with plaque psoriasis will also be diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. While somewhat uncommon, this diagnosis requires a different approach to care in order to help patients better manage their symptoms.

Having these concomitant conditions can be more of a challenge for dermatologists to treat, but Laura Korb Ferris, MD, PhD, from UPMC, said that physicians are better able to help these patients than they were just a few years ago. She also said it is important for not only dermatologists to be involved in this care, but rheumatologists as well. While bone erosion is permanent, Korb said there are things doctors can do to help slow progression of the condition.
