For patients dealing with a variety of conditions fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) may be the best option for treatment. Explaining the procedure to patients can sometimes be a delicate conversation for doctors with good results so far.

One of the biggest problems gastroenterologists face when prescribing FMT, according to Neilanjan Nandi from Drexel University's College of Medicine, is getting the patients to understand the entirety of the process of FMT from donors to medication. Once that is done however, he said they are much more accepting of its somewhat unconventional roots.
