Tapentadol, a drug prescribed for pain management, will now be detectable through an oral fluid test developed by Forensic Laboratories.
Previously, the drug, approved by the FDA in 2008, could only be detected by testing a patient’s urine. The oral fluid test is the first of its kind for Tapentadol, a narcotic pain reliever used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Forensic Laboratories, based in Denver, Co., developed the technology (PAINpro) to aid pain management specialists in monitoring the drug use among patients. The method is easier and non-invasive and reduces the chances of tampering associated with the collection of urine test samples.
