Without the bandwith for self-care, the spark to care for others may be dimmed and diluted by a crushing system and an uncaring workforce.
A solution to a crisis always requires a next step – something to move the needle forward and get action started on a larger scale. Or, if not, the discussion will become more and more exasperated until it boils over and some magic elixir will not appear to solve these issues.
It may even leave an open wound for generations to come, who may be fearful of a job that gives so much and gets so little in return. But, there are ways to head towards rectification and pull back the curtain on the problems in the profession.
In this episode, the solutions to physician and medical burnout are laid bare, with expressions for necessary change made on both the individual level and the organizational level. In fact, the very important point of collectivism was made: What is an organization if not a collection of individuals?
HCPLive® Crisis Point is an in-depth mini-docuseries. The series takes a comprehensive look into different public health crises in the United States, with worldwide implications.
Our 5 experts returned in the third and final episode to discuss necessary implementations in healthcare that will lessen the burden of burnout, from the overhaul of electronic medical records to increases in access to mental health and reduced stigma.
Ultimately, they expressed their hope for a larger change that will reduce burnout and result in a larger reassessment of the field and what it means to be a caregiver.
