Infection prevention is key in wanting to halt the rapid spread of antibiotic resistance.

Arjun Srinivasan, MD, Associated Director for Healthcare Associated Infection Prevention Programs at the CDC, shared that he believed a parallel was necessary to improve antibiotic stewardship in not only inpatient settings, but in outpatient settings as well.

"Infectious diseases patients are who need to be leading the country in how we can improve antibiotic use throughout all these settings," stated Srinivasan.
