Current treatment methods for fibroids focus on surgical procedures but Scott G. Chudnoff, MD, from Montefiore Medical Center said work is being done to develop pharmaceutical options as well. Chudnoff noted that even as these new methods are developed their availability to patients could depend to some extent on whether the treatment options will be covered by insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. Many trials for these new options are in the early stages so will likely not be available to the public for the forseeable future.
