A novel method of treating pain by using stem cells was halted by the FDA, as reported by The Denver Post.

The agency filed an injunction to stop the Broomfield clinic from proceeding with using patients' own stem cells to alleviate pain. The cells were removed from patients and grown in an outside lab.The doctors would then inject these cells into the individual patients’ joints.

The FDA claimed Regenerative Sciences clinic violated federal standards by “injecting patients with their cultured stem cells.”

The FDA did not approve the clinic’s product, nor was there significant evidence presented in the form of controlled studies to prove the methods are safe and effective.
