The use of genetic testing in endocrinology may be new, but in the future it could prove to be a valuable tool as the medical community looks to move beyond gastric bypass and other treatments for obesity and other conditions.

Joel Hirschhorn, MD, PhD, from Harvard Medical School discussed what advancement in the field could mean during the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists 24th Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress in Nashville. Hirschhorn said as important as developments in testing is making sure the people conducting the testing know what they are looking at and what they should be looking for. He also said they can get a better sense of the conditions they are diagnosing through these tests.
