Treatment Guidelines for Glucocorticoid Use

Glucocorticoids are highly effective in treating inflammatory conditions. However, these medications also pose a significant risk for bone loss and fracture. In this slideshow, we cover the treatment guidelines.

Glucocorticoids are highly effective in treating inflammatory conditions. However, these medications also pose a significant risk for bone loss and fracture. According to existing research, more than 10 percent of patients who receive long-term glucocorticoid treatment are diagnosed with a fracture. It’s possible, though, to reverse some of the treatment impacts associated with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. If a patient stops glucocorticoid therapy, bone mineral density can return, and fracture risk drops. Consequently, it’s important for clinicians to pinpoint the patients for whom glucocorticoid therapy outweighs the potential adverse effects. In this slideshow, we cover the treatment guidelines.REFERENCESBuckley L, Guyatt G, Fink H, et al.
