Author(s):

In a constantly evolving field like oncology it can be difficult for doctors not in specialized centers to keep up on the latest developments and direct their patients to people who can best help them. In a constantly evolving field like oncology it can be difficult for doctors not in specialized centers to keep up on the latest developments and direct their patients to people who can best help them. Because of this elite centers are working to improve education not only for patients but health care professionals as well.

Working at one of the top centers in the country for this procedure Wilber B. Bowne, of the Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital said it is important that the information which can help patients in most need of new procedures reaches them so they can be treated in the most effective ways possible. One example of this work is hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy where patients in the latter stages of abdominal cancer receive heated and highly concentrated doses of chemotherapy after doctors remove all visible tumors from the area.
