I have not had a recent referred patient come to me on any older insulins. The big surprise? Many times I switch them back from Aspart, Levemir, and lantus.

Making the transition from outpatient to inpatient has been thankfully only a slightly “bumpy” road, but it is amazing looking back on how our approach to inpatient diabetes care and hyperglycemia on the whole has changed over the past 10 years.

A few months ago the FDA issued a formal statement about the issue of sharing insulin pens and cartridges. In short, they gave it a big NO all around.

This week President Obama made his case for the healthcare overhaul in a state close by (he was in NC) and I wish I could have made the trip to ask some questions. For the most part I am ALL for a major overhaul.

This week the news is abuzz with the potential FDA crack-down on some over-the-counter pain medications like Tylenol, as well as Tylenol-containing prescription medications.

Every now and then a study gets published that grabs everyone’s attention. Not just in the media-frenzy kind of way, but truly affecting clinical practice.

Our clinic sample-closet is still stocked thank goodness, with glucose meters and testing supplies. The hospital removed all the medications and placed them centrally in the pharmacy for distribution, so that they "could keep track" of what was being given out. What a pain, but that is another story...
