The rising cost of natural gas has hit alot of Americans in the wallet, accordingto recent US Census Bureau figures. Morethan half of all Americans use some formof gas to heat their home, whether it'snatural gas from a local utility or liquidpropane from a tank. Less than 9% usefuel oil or kerosene, with most of thoseconcentrated in the Northeast. Almostfour of five homes in Maine are heatedwith fuel oil. Homes that use electricityfor heating are mostly found in warmerclimates; more than a third of the homesusing it are located in just three states:Florida, Texas, and California. In Florida,90% of homes use electricity for heating.
