A British man was recently sentenced to4 years in jail for leading a six-man Internetgang that stole nearly $360,000 through asophisticated fraud that took place over a12-month period. According to the AssociatedPress, David Levi, 29, of Latham,England, orchestrated a high-level schemethat employed phishing e-mails to defraudunsuspecting eBay customers. The e-mailspretended to be an online auction Web siteand directed customers to bogus URLs,where victims were asked to input creditcard or bank account information and passwords.The gang then used this informationto gain access to the financial records ofmore than 160 individuals. Other gangmembers'sentences ranged from 6 monthsto 2 years. The ringleader's brother, GuyLevi, 22, was sentenced to 21 months.
