Looking to upgrade to a more energy- efficient, environmentally sound lighting system for your practice? Look out for light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LED lights are on their way to replacing incandescent and fluorescent lighting in businesses. LEDs last five times as long as fluorescent lights and 50 times longer than traditional incandescent lights. With the growing trend of green living and the rise in energy bills, incandescent lighting appears to be on its way out, and LEDs will offer a safer alternative to the energy-saving fluorescents (which contain mercury).
While LED lights have been around for a while now, they have not been advanced enough to replace current light sources as primary lighting. A company called PolyBrite is looking to push the LEDs full forward, already providing some retail stores with LED lights and planning to enter the hotel and restaurant lighting business in the near future. PolyBrite prices its bulbs at $10 to $14, with each bulb offering six times the light per unit of electricity than an incandescent bulb.
