With more than 10,000 providers from around the world converging on the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions, lessons from the event can be implemented as soon as the next day or show promise of work to come in the future.

In the short term, Nieca Goldberg, MD, from NYU Langone Medical Center, said with a better knowledge about the differences between men and women can go a long way in helping provide better care for these patients. Looking at the meeting as a whole, Goldberg said studies looking at patients who have heart disease and arthritis and how they can best be treated can have an immediate impact in treatment today.
