In his own practice with Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, David R. Walega, MD, said even looking at common alternative treatments has not worked in many cases. He also said it can be key to address acute pain before it becomes "chronified." When it comes to chronic pain, Walega said developing quality coping skills can help patients manage their pain better.
