The field of electronic health records has made big advancements in recent years but there is still more work to be done. How that work is done will depend on input not only from the healthcare field but also the patients who use it.

The field of electronic health records has made big advancements in recent years but there is still more work to be done. How that work is done will depend on input not only from the healthcare field but also the patients who use it.

William M. Tierney, MD, President and CEO of the Regenstrief Institute and a professor at Indiana University said that work is moving forward to find how to make electronic health records as effective and useful as possible. Tierney said one of the key aspects of that work will focus on interoperability so that whether a patient is in Indiana or elsewhere in the country the same information is available for the people treating the patients.
