Many hospitals around the country are eliminating their paper records all together which is changing the way patient records are shared. This can have a long reach into a patient's life as different parts of their lives depend on having their records to send to various entities.

William M. Tierney, MD, President and CEO of the Regenstrief Institute and a professor at Indiana University discussed how the implications of sharing electronic health records can go beyond just the time the patient spends in clinic with healthcare professionals. With records being digitized it can simplify sending information to places like social security for a disability claim.
