While some patients may need procedures like gastric bypass surgery to lose weight others may be able to achieve their goals by taking smaller steps.

Patients have different needs depending on their condition and different levels of access to help depending on their location and socioeconomic status, but Brandie Waite, MD, from the UC Davis Health System said neither should be a limiting factor to providing at least some help to these patiens. As the problem has progressed for many years Waite said it will take many more to solve the obesity epidemic but that does not make the task completely insurmountable.
