Despite recently approved medications showing improvement over previously used diet pills and other treatments there is still no medicinal cure for obesity and the best hope for patients in many cases is lifestyle changes.

With the memory of health issues associated with fen-phen still fresh in the minds of many in the health care community Dave L. Dixon, PharmD, from Virginia Commonwealth University said even all these years later newly approved agents are not being as widely accepted as they could have been otherwise. Despite their approval Dixon said there are still some concerns to be addressed with patients by their providers as this becomes another tool in the fight against the obesity epidemic. Dixon spoke on the topic during the American College of Cardiology's 65th Annual Scientific Session and Expo in Chicago.
