Philip Schauer from Cleveland Clinic: Gastric Bypass Shows Greatest Results in Patient Weight Loss Study

For patients needing to lose the most amount of weight for help with cardiovascular conditions or diabetes there are many ideas on how best to achieve their goals.

Speaking at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology in Chicago, Philip Schauer, MD, from the Cleveland Clinic discussed the results of the STAMPEDE trial which looked at this topic. Schauer said the trial looked at patients who received either gastric bypass surgery, a gastric sleeve, or "very intense" medical treatment. At 5 years Schauer said data showed much better results from the surgical options than the medical treatment in bringing A1C levels down to 6%.
