With hundreds of thousands of people in the United States undergoing dialysis the field of nephrology is working hard to keep these patients as healthy as possible in hopes of getting them to the point of kidney transplant.

Having been in the field for many years Thomas L. Salazer, MD, from Hackensack University Medical Center said he has seen great strides made in this area and that there is more development to help this patient population in the future. Until new treatments are introduced to replace dialysis he said a considerable amount of work is being done to not only keep the patients healthy, but also prevent other conditions like hepatitis from developing and spreading.
